Mary was baptised on the 26th November 1855 at the Presbyterian Church in the parish of Wollongong / Kiama by Father George Mackie. There was a note included at the bottom of the baptismal register stating that Mrs Carberry’s husband had died a few months previous to the birth of this child (V18554484 121B).

James McIlraith Wallace was born on 3 March 1851 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, the son of Anne and Alexander. He married Mary Carberry in 1879 in Coonamble, New South Wales (reg. 4205).

Some time prior to 1906 when Mary’s mother Ann passed away, Mary must have travelled to New Zealand where her sister Catherine ‘ Kate’ was living and had passed away in 1905.

We have been unable to find any records of what became of Mary Wallace. Did she return to NSW or did she stay in New Zealand? Where did she pass away?

In 1913 when he was 62, James Wallace married Amie May French and they had one son together, also named James McIlraith Wallace. He died on 14 September 1936 in Gunnedah, New South Wales, at the age of 85, and was buried there.
