Elizabeth Carberry was born on 7 November 1844 in Jamberoo, New South Wales, her father, Michael, was 40, and her mother, Ann, was 18.

Johnston Graham was born in 1839 in Ballinamallard, Fermanagh, the son of Eliza and Charles. He arrived in Sydney aboard the Hotspur on 24th February 1861 aged 22, his religion was listed at Church of England and he could both read and write.

6 years after his arrival in the colonies, Betsy & Johnston married in 1867 at Kiama, NSW (reg. 2254). The next year in 1868, their first child, a daughter named Anne was born. They would go on to have another daughter Elizabeth and a son William.

Tragically Betsy would pass away a year after little William’s birth, leaving Johnston a widower with three small children.

Johnston would go on to marry again have further children.
