Lillian McLean

1.1.11 – 6th child of Anne Carberry and Allen McLean

When Lillian Mclean was born in 1869 in Kiama, New South Wales, her father, Allan, was 49, and her mother, Ann, was 43. Lillian was the youngest of Ann’s 11 children from her marriages to Michael Carberry and and Allan McLean.

Lillian married George Hounsell Morris in 1902 in Marrickville, New South Wales. George was the son of Robert Morris and Mary Ann Hounsell. They were both a little older, Lillian was 33 and George was 31. His obituary said of their wedding, “Mr Morris married Miss Lillian McLean daughter of Mr Alan McLean of Jerrara, and managed the business for Mrs Walker, as undertaker and cabinet maker.” Mrs Walker was Lillian’s older sister Esther “Ettie” McLean.

Lillian and George had one child during their marriage, a daughter Edith Lillian Morris, born the year after their wedding in 1903.

George would pass away aged 61 in Marrickville on the 25 Jan 1933. “As a citizen of Kiama, the late Mr Morris took great interest in musical affairs and was was a conductor of the Musical Society which was associated with the school of Arts and also conducted the Presbyterian Choir.

Lillian would live for another 16 years and pass away at the age of 80. “MORRIS Lillian -May 27 1949 at hospital relict of the late George Hounsell Morris formerly of 38 George Street Marrickville At rest”
